Printmaking dates back to the 18th century. Before the 18th century printmaking wasn't considered an art form. It was a means of communication. By the 19th century prints were considered 'originals' and people began signing their 'originals'. In Europe printmaking was used with textiles before using paper. Printmaking moved to wood and then metal a few decades after. Pablo Picasso is known for his printing making in the 20th century
